The cooler Autumn weather gets everyone cravin’ heart-warming soup with a side of bread for dipping, of course! With just a hint of basil, Mom’s trusty soup recipe may have met its match!

Ingredients

  • 8 cups canned tomatoes with juice
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 cup finely diced onions
  • 4 Tbsp War Eagle Mill Organic All-Purpose Flour
  • 5 cups of milk
  • 1 cup half & half
  • 6 Tbsp sugar
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 2 tsp garlic salt
  • 2 tsp onion powder
  • 1 Tbsp basil

Instructions

  1. Puree tomatoes into little chunks in a food processor.
  2. In a large saucepan, melt butter and sauté onions until soft. Stir in all-purpose flour.
  3. Cook on medium heat stirring constantly for 2 minutes.
  4. Whisk in milk and half & half.
  5. When smooth and creamy, add all seasonings.
  6. Cook for 1 minute.
  7. Add tomatoes, simmer for 20 minutes. Add additional seasoning to taste.
  8. Enjoy with freshly made bread, hot rolls, or cornbread.
