Way back when, we chose to focus on you, your taste buds and your health by making our products deliciously fresh and naturally produced.
We grind our flour daily the War Eagle way – stone slow to preserve all the nutrients and the deep, rich taste. Our grain farmers are committed to maintaining a natural, organic environment for their products and work with us to shorten the time between the field, the milling process and your table. Our commitment to your health was made in 1832 and is renewed every day at the War Eagle Mill because you are our first priority.
All of our whole grain flours and meals are ground by stone. Stone grinding is the best way to preserve the natural nutrients in flour. Our stone buhr mill, powered by water, uses a slow process so the grain is never heated, unlike the huge steel roller mills of today that operate at a high rate of speed.
Beacause “whole grain” means “wholesome health”
Nothing is separated from the natural grain in stone buhr grinding nor is anything added. The corn oil and germ remains in the whole grain product. and the wheat germ oil and bran are intact in whole wheat flour. The wheat germ contains 90 percent of the vitamins of the wheat including vitamins A,D,B complex and large amounts of E. Those letters spell out a healthy choice for our customers.
Take, for example, our War Eagle Biscuit Mix, combining whole wheat flour and wheat germ. Whole grains contain high fiber and the antioxidants of Vitamin E that neutralize “free radicals.” Whole grains improve skin and can help in the fight against diseases like diabetes and colon cancer. And, the mix is so versatile that you can add any number of ingredients, flavoring and use it for main dishes and desserts.
And, that’s just the beginning…
Good ole country home cooking has been the tradition at the War Eagle Mill Bean Palace Restaurant since it opened. The more we learn about natural goodness, the more we want to continue offering you the same delicious taste that fuels your days, satisfies your appetite and supports your wellness.
We have depended on “alternative”energy for over 170 years
When you come to visit War Eagle Mill you will see that we are quite obviously a “green” operation. As the water flows down War Eagle Creek, a small portion flows under our mill wheel, turning the stones that grind your grain. But our outreaching commitment to the environment is our support of our many organic grain farmers. We purchase only organic grains to grind at our mill, because we believe that they are they healthiest grains for you and your family. We are also committed to organic agriculture because it is gentler on the environment. Organic farming demands that farmers work with nature and not add harmful chemical fertilizers and poisons to produce a crop. This means more work for the farmers in the field and can also mean more care must be taken when the grain is stored and transported without chemical fumigation. When we choose to purchase our grains from these hard working organic farmers it lets them know that we appreciate their extra efforts to produce the best quality grain with the least impact on the planet. When you purchase our flours and meals, you let us know that you appreciate these things as well.
