Earth Day. What better way to honor our planet

growing practices. The American farms that produce
our grains are total systems that work in harmony
with nature and wildlife.
What
better way to honor our body than with a diet
rich in whole grains. We need to nourish and
protect ourselves as well. The Institute of
Medicine recommends consuming 14 grams of total
fiber for every 1000 calories you need. The
Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommends
that at least half of your grain intake come
from whole grains because they are an important
source of fiber in the diet.

Powerhouse Pilaf
Substitute this three grain
side dish for your usual baked potato to add
more flavor & fiber to your dinner. A quick
and easy recipe!
Ingredients
2 Tbs butter or margarine
½ cp finely chopped green onions
1 cp uncooked War Eagle
Basmati Rice
½ cp uncooked War Eagle Quinoa, rinsed
½ cp uncooked War Eagle Millet Berries
3 cp chicken or vegetable broth
¼ tsp salt
Directions
Melt butter in a large nonstick
skillet over medium heat. Add onions and sauté
for 2 minutes. Add grains and cook 3 minutes.
Stir in broth and salt. Bring to a boil; cover;
reduce heat and simmer 25 minutes. Makes 6 -
1 cup servings.

Apple Pecan Coffee Cake
Topping:
¼ cp brown sugar
2 Tbs. War Eagle Pecan
Cinnamon Pancake Mix
2 Tbs. cold butter
Cake:
2 cp War Eagle Pecan Cinnamon
Pancake Mix
2 Tbs. sugar
1 egg
2/3 cp water
1 cp apples, finely chopped
Preheat oven to 400°. Grease
9" round cake pan or 8" square pan. Mix topping
ingredients until crumbly, and set aside. Beat
together mix, sugar, egg and water. Fold in
apples. Spread batter in pan; add topping. Bake
20-25 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.
